Geography
The municipality of Vidigueira is located on the border between Baixo Alentejo and Alto Alentejo, between Beja and Évora. Serra do Mendro embodies this border and shelters the municipality to the north; the eastern part is crossed by the Guadiana river, while to the south and west extends the vast Alentejo plain. The existing landscape diversity is dominated by the natural heritage, but also by the humanized heritage. Thanks to its relatively exuberant vegetation, the abundance of water, the richness of the soils and the fact that it leans against the Mendro mountain range, Vidigueira was already called "Sintra of Alentejo".
Climate
The specificity of the relief is directly related to the climate, that is, the Vidigueira fault, a natural accident that marks the division between the Upper and Lower Alentejo (Mendro mountains), determines the reason why the climate is more temperate than the normal in Alentejo, with an average temperature of 16.4 °C. The climate classification is Csa according to the Köppen-Geiger climate classification.
The average annual rainfall is 567 mm. The driest month is July, with 3 mm of precipitation. Most precipitation falls in December, averaging 80 mm.
In August, which is the hottest of the year, the average temperature is 24.1 °C. In January, the average temperature is 9.9 °C, which is the lowest average temperature of the entire year.
